- עֲרִירִיm. (b. h.; ערר cmp. עָרָה I) (stripped, lonely, childless. Gen. R. s. 44. Yeb.55a (ref. to Lev. 20:20 a. 21) יש לו בנים קוברן … הולך ע׳ if he had children (at the time he committed the sin), he will bury them; if he had none, he will remain childless. Y.Snh.VII, 24c לצורך יצאת לידון בע׳ it is specified (in Lev. 20:20) for a purpose, namely for the punishment of ʿăriri (death without leaving issue).Pl. עֲרִירִים, Ib. כל אתר דתימר ע׳ רהיו … ע׳ ימותווכ׳ wherever the text says, ‘they shall be lonely, it means, they shall be without children, where it says, ‘they shall die lonely, it means they shall bury their children (v. supra); a. e.ערירין, Y.Keth.VI, 30d אשכחינין ע׳, v. עֲרַר I.
